100 Mile November: This Challenge Is About Mind Over Miles

As the leaves finish falling and the crisp air turns noticeably frigid, it’s easy to slip into hibernation mode. The days get shorter, the couch gets cozier, and the holiday hustle starts creeping into our daily schedules. But right at the moment when it’s easiest to slow down, a different kind of movement is calling: 100 Mile November!!
Before you start doing the math and talking yourself out of it, stop. 100 Mile November isn’t just about getting 100 miles in one month. Sure, hitting triple digits is a feat in and of itself, but this challenge goes so much deeper than physical stats on a fitness tracker.
It’s about taking mindfulness of your actions and challenging yourself daily. It's about mental health over physical health.
Mind Over Muscle
Your body is capable of doing so much more than you realize, if only your mind knew.
100 Mile November was specifically designed to raise awareness for mental health. When late autumn rolls around, many of us experience a shift in our mood, energy, and overall well-being. The holidays are around the corner, and for many it can be a lonely and challenging time. This challenge is about taking intentional steps daily to stay active, boost endorphins, build mental resilience and connect with others.
Any Way You Move Counts
Before you tap out…it’s not just 100 RUNNING miles
Whether you run, walk, hike, swim, bike, lunge, crawl, or inchworm your way forward, it all counts. The ultimate goal is simply to get moving. If you’re a northern dweller braving freezing temperatures, hopping on a treadmill inside totally works too.
And let’s be honest: yes, it would be lovely if this challenge took place in sunny June when the weather is accommodating. But the timing is entirely part of the point. 100 Mile November hits right as the weather shifts from cozy fall into "cold AF." It’s when the temptation to sit by the fire is at an all-time high.
You can still sit by that fire with a warm drink and a good book—AFTER you get your miles in. The sense of accomplishment you’ll feel sitting by that hearth after braving the elements is unmatched. Do the hard stuff and do it first!
The Math: Strategy Is Key
Let’s break down what 100 miles in 30 days actually looks like so you can conquer it without burning out:
The Daily Average: 100 miles ÷ 30 days = ~3.33 miles a day (just over a daily 5K).
The Snowball Effect: If you skip just 1 day, you’re looking at 6.66 miles the next day. Skip 2 days in a row? You’re behind by 10 miles. That’s a heavy lift to make up in a single day.
Coach Ellie Pro-Tip: Front-Load Your Month
Don't let the miles stack up behind you. Instead, stack up your bank at the beginning of the month when your energy is high. Aim for 4 miles a day right out of the gate. That extra 0.6+ miles a day creates a cushion for those busy days, rest moments, or bad weather down the road.
